Massage + Bodywork

All massage sessions are tailored specifically to client needs and preferences, but traditionally employ one or several of the modalities below.

Swedish: A deeply relaxing massage using long gliding strokes to improve circulation, reduce muscular tension, and relieve stress. This is a great introduction to massage if it's your first session, would like to reduce anxiety, or just need to decompress.

Deep Tissue: A therapeutic massage designed to address chronic muscle tension, relieve painful, sore or tight muscles, and improve joint mobility. Includes gentle stretching, myofascial release and/or trigger point therapy. Deep tissue work at OpenSpace does not necessarily mean deep pressure, but we’ll work with you to meet your needs.

Myofascial Release: A therapeutic massage technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue to reduce pain symptoms.

Prenatal: An enjoyable massage for pregnant clients that specifically targets areas of discomfort to provide relief to the neck, low back, and hips, as well as alleviate swollen ankles and tired legs. Clients will lay in a supported and comfortable side-laying position with maternity pillows. Prenatal massage is available for 60 or 90-minutes only.

Sports: A form of bodywork geared toward participants in athletics. It is used to help prevent injuries, to prepare the body for athletic activity and maintain it in optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injuries. Stretching is often a component of sports massage.

Lymphatic Drainage: A gentle form of massage used to reduce inflammation and swelling and promote overall wellness. While lymphatic massage can help prevent lymphedema, please note that we do not perform massage on clients that currently have lymphedema.

Hot Stone: Exclusively with Nellie Blair, hot stone massage uses smooth, heated stones to warm and relax muscles, while also allowing the massage therapist to apply deeper pressure to those areas without causing discomfort. This service is a flat $15 more per session.

Scar Remediation: Exclusively with Erin Osiol, scar remediation work is designed to change the appearance, texture, and mobility of scar tissue and the surrounding area. Often performed in conjunction with myfascial release and/or lymphatic drainage.
